Episode 9: Hopelessly Hooked on Facebook Dementors

Episode 9: Hopelessly Hooked on Facebook Dementors

Join us this week as we discuss technology addiction, security, and the #FreeKesha movement.

Rob ponders the possibility that we are all “hopelessly hooked” to our devices after a traumatic experience at the gym. We also talk about how tethered our lives are to our phones, and weigh in on the Apple-FBI Saga. (2:01)

Jess talks about Facebook’s view into her sleep patterns, and what else they’re tracking. She also imagines an amazing app where Dementors come out of her phone and suck all her data. It looks kind of like this. (14:20)

And finally, we discuss the #FreeKesha movement and how it has banded female musicians and other women together on the Internet in a way that is unprecedented. (Jess’ note: The Kesha “Blow” video is required viewing, if only for the exchange at the 2:40 mark.) (21:50)

Episode 8: Colon Cat Colon

Episode 8: Colon Cat Colon

Welcome to episode 8!!

We spend the first several minutes learning how to use our new recording platform and sending cat emojis to each other.

Jess wanted to talk about ride sharing apps and the pressure they are getting to make the background check process stricter than it currently is. This is a particularly contentious issue here in Austin where we are recording, but some of these apps, like Uber, are getting pressure globally to increase the screening process.  (2:48)

The Joule bracelet for caffeine has raised almost $70,000 freaking dollars on indiegogo. Robzie is upset about about wearable caffeine. Equally upsetting, Jess and Sarah’s boyfriend enjoy the same ridiculous sorority girl cocktails. Nobody had cellulite. Shut up. (19:29)

Sarah get’s into the new study buzzing around the internet about the alleged pitfalls of the “Paleo Diet”. Everyone is up in arms about the findings that suggest that this popular diet is making people fat. The parameters of the study are pretty sketchy. Obviously, you shouldn’t live on butter and steak exclusively, but was anyone even suggesting that you should? We want to know what you guys are eating? Send us pictures! (Of your food.) (30:51)

Episode 7: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, High School Reunions, and Text Message Breakups

ep07-graphic

Sarah forgot to come up with a real topic because she was binge watching Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. We talk about the name, how the creators know it’s sexist, and how the show manages to be so funny it gets a pass for being a musical.

Jess wants to make sure it’s cool she skipped her high school reunion since everyone is on Facebook anyway. How much longer will we even continue these traditions? Rob enjoyed his reunion experience, and Sarah is super mean.

Rob gets broken up with via text message and we discuss whether or not this is an acceptable way to end relationships in this day and age. What about if you met online? What about if you’re super busy and don’t have time to break up in person, what about if you reeaalllly don’t want to do it in person? What do you guys think? Let us know if you think face to face is always the way to go.

Episode 6: TV Comebacks, Listicle Life, and Imposter Syndrome

Episode 6

Episode Six!

Rob finally saw the deadpool movie and he loved it!

Jess and Sarah got their tattoos! There are just as basic as they sounded like they would be. Then we have an informative talk about hair removal options. You’re welcome.

Most importantly: CUPCAKES! We need suggestions for the cupcakes Jess will make to celebrate episode 12. Sarah suggested vodka and cider flavored, but was shot down.

Don’t call it a comeback! We kick off the topics this week discussing the reboot mania happening in TV Land right now. What shows get tapped for revival? We discuss bringing back shows that ended too soon vs. dragging shows that had a good run back from the dead.  THERE IS NEVER GOING TO BE A FRIENDS REBOOT. According to the internet.(10:15)

Jess wanted to talk about the much shared article “To Anyone Who Thinks They Are Falling Behind In Life”, Listicles and being #greatby1030. We discuss feeling like your planner is shaming you. Is the #hussle getting some much needed social pushback? Are people finally starting to realize that a good night’s sleep and some healthy food is better for you than burning the candle at both ends all the time. #napping is our new religion. (17:50)

Rob wants to set the record straight on Impostor Syndrome and its realities. And then we discover that we all have it. Is our generation struggling from this anxiety because we jump jobs so often? Are we crazy?!?  Make us feel better by writing to let us know if you ever deal with Impostor Syndrome in your own life. (28:50)

Next video: Jess and Sarah apologize for not knowing how to properly video on iPhone.

Lastly, Service and delivery apps are taking over the world. Sarah used to think only lazy people used them, but now she’s lazy and thinks they are awesome. Should they be doing more to make these services available to people who need them way more than any of us? (29:09)
